A short treatise on RP. Play to Lift!

#1 Post by Liathene » Wed Sep 09, 2020 4:54 pm

My husband did a thing...
This came about due to some trouble with people in the game my hubby is playing currently, which is why the examples have nothing to do with WoW. Still, I thought the explanations and examples could still be useful.
Plus, this is a reminder we all need sometimes. :)

Rather than post it all here, I'm just dropping a link to the open document - he might add to it.

A very interesting essay all-round!

The Three Way Model jumped out at me as a familiar concept. It extends beyond roleplay to a broader conception of modern games, as exemplified by the following system of game taxonomy.

Note how roleplaying games sit right in the middle of the triangle, having a relative balance of all three, and as the Three Way Model shows, having variant styles accordingly.

This doesn't add much, I know, but I thought it was a neat connection.
