Rules of Starlight

#1 Post by Anadelonbrin » Mon Mar 08, 2021 6:40 pm

No killing in Stormwind.
Stormwind is our home base and for the safety of our members, we can not risk the degree of conflict with the law or other groups in the city that killing someone may result in, regardless of how justified the act may be. The act of one member brings consequence for all members.

If you kill someone, self-defense or not, or commit a crime, tell one of the officers immediately. If none can be reached on the stone, write a letter. We need to be aware of possible threats so that we can protect our own. We will not turn you over to the authorities, but there are limits to what actions we will take to protect you from situations of your own making.

If you gain enemies, or old enemies resurface, tell one of the officers immediately. Enemies may target not only you, but your associates as well. Forewarned is forearmed.

When you come on a mission, leave your personal conflicts out. We don’t expect everyone to always be best friends, but there is a time and a place for everything, and a mission is not the time and place to deal with personal issues.

Respect your fellow Starlighters. We come from different backgrounds, races, faiths and walks of life. We may not always agree with each others’ opinions but we should always strive to treat each other the way we wish to be treated ourselves. If you feel you have been wronged and the situation could not be resolved at the time, bring it to an officer.

Respect the guild meetings. Avoid serious disruptions and speak in an orderly fashion. If you arrive late, please take your seat quietly.

Starlight does not have revolving doors. If you throw your stone away, don’t expect us to give you a new one.

Promotion to Member
Upon joining the guild, you will have the Explorer rank. This is a form of membership trial, both to see whether you are a match for the guild and the guild a match for you. In order to proceed to full membership,

You are required to
- Introduce yourself at a guild meeting.
- Plan and host an event for members of the guild.*
- Get to know others in Starlight and give them a chance to get to know you.

You are encouraged to
- Reach out to people in the guild and get involved.
- Ask questions, all learning is good.
- Stay in contact with your Pathfinder, if you have one.

You are obliged to
- Follow the rules and guidelines regardless of platform. Whether you are in World of Warcraft, on Discord, the forums, face to face or otherwise, when you act within or on behalf of the Starlight community, the rules apply.
- Be respectful to others. If you would not like a comment made to you, do not make it to someone else.
- Accept responsibility, ownership and consequences of your actions, In Character (IC) as well as Out of Character (OOC).
- Acknowledge that IC actions may have OOC consequences. While IC actions should predominantly be handled with IC responses, some situations may affect the other player/s involved and not just their characters. When in doubt - ask.
- Acknowledge that there are times when IC behaviour needs to be moderated for OOC reasons. Something may be the logical behaviour for your character, but if it’s going to ruin someone else’s evening OOC, please consider whether there are other options.
- Respect other people’s right to opt out of roleplay (RP) situations without demanding an explanation.

You are not allowed to
- Put fellow guild members on ignore or block. If you feel the need to do so, it may only be done temporarily (hours, max days, not weeks) and an officer needs to be contacted right away so that the conflict can be resolved.
- Harass other guild members. **

You are encouraged to
- Strive to minimize the impact of choices to opt out of RP, whether it was your choice or someone else’s.
- Give others the benefit of a doubt. Assume that their intentions are good.

The game
You are obliged to
- Treat guild chat as IC.
- /join SL for Starlight’s OOC chat.

You are encouraged to
- Participate IC in guild chat and OOC in the SL chat.
- Participate in guild meetings.
- Participate in guild events.
- Organize and run events, on your own or together with others. Don’t be afraid to ask for assistance.
- Sign up on the event calendar for events you intend to join.***
- Step out of your comfort zone within reason.

The forums
You are obliged to
- Create and confirm a forum account upon joining the guild.
- Read the rules and make a post to confirm that you have read them and agree to comply with them.

You are encouraged to
- Write an introduction for your character when applying to the guild, even when this is not the first character you join with.
- Keep informed of guild matters brought up on the forum, such as upcoming and ongoing events.
- Post feedback on events you have participated in.
- Sign up, vote for or post your interest with regards to events and contests that request sign ups, votes or a show of interest.
- Participate in discussions and writing contests.
- Write journals or other forms of write ups of RP.

Discord -
You are obliged to
- Join the Starlight Discord server upon joining the guild and remain in it for as long as you remain in the guild.
- Change your name on the Starlight Discord server to match (one of) your Starlight character(s).

You are encouraged to
- Participate in the Cocktail Hour voice calls.
- Stay informed of guild events and policies.
- Participate in day to day interactions in the channels appropriate for respective topics.
- Place a star symbol next to your name if you are open to Discord RP.

You are allowed to
- Remain on the Starlight Discord server after leaving the guild, provided that the departure is on good terms.

RL (Real Life) always comes first. Sometimes we require time away from the screen or online social activities for whatever reason, and this is perfectly fine. We don’t ask you to tell us every time you go away for a weekend, but if you go on a longer break, we would like to know. Please inform the guild either by posting on the forum or by talking directly to an officer if you intend to be absent from guild channels for an extended amount of time and wish to remain in the guild.

Full Members (including other ranks above Explorer) are given more leeway.

Explorers will be contacted after one month of unannounced IC inactivity via forum PM (and thus to the e-mail you have associated with the forum account) and Discord PM. Failure to reply within a week will result in removal from the guild.

Members will be contacted after three months of unannounced OOC inactivity via forum PM and Discord PM. Failure to reply within two weeks will result in removal from the guild.

Members who are removed due to inactivity are welcome to reapply when/if they return to the game.

You may
- Bring an additional character into the guild once your first character has been promoted to full member.
- Have one character in the guild with the Explorer rank at a time.
- /join SL with alts that are not in the guild, provided that you are comfortable with letting at the very least the officers know whose alt it is so that we can ensure that it remains a guild channel.
- Be promoted to full member through the same procedure as the first character the player joined with, with or without the assistance of a Pathfinder.
- Request a Pathfinder for your alt.****

Failure to comply with the rules will result in consequences at the discretion of the officers and depending on the gravity of the rule breach, including but not limited to:
- Demotion
- IC punishments
- Removal from the guild
- Temporary muting on Discord

* On planning and hosting an event
The event does not have to be for the entire guild, but should involve at least 2 other Starlighters. You don’t have to do the planning all alone and it is one of the things the Pathfinders will gladly assist and advise on. The event has to be held IC by the character that wishes to be promoted, even if the player has already hosted several other events on another character. It can be anything from a small tea party to the glorious quest to slay an evil overlord.

** On harassment
Harassment is defined as: systematic and/or continued unwanted and annoying actions of one party or a group, including threats and demands based on racial prejudice, sexual objectification, advances or obscene remarks, or personal malice as an attempt to force someone to do something, to grant sexual favours, gain power, or cause someone to feel fearful or anxious. Whether this is IC, OOC, in person, online, via text or email, or by proxy (by others).

When someone is harassed, assaulted, or abused in a Starlight community context, they must be listened to with compassion and trust; be given the benefit of the doubt; have their privacy and wishes respected; and have swift and appropriate action taken to solve the problem.

*** On signing up
Signing up helps event organizers plan events better through having an idea of which and how many people will be there. If you are uncertain whether you will be able to make it to an event, regardless of reason (time, energy, interest etc) but have a wish to join, sign up as tentative.

**** Pathfinders will not automatically be assigned to new characters of players who already have a previous character in the guild.

I've read the rules and I agree to comply them. Also in addition I think that having the extra material here such as how to make people feel safe in Starlight, dice/rolling mechanics was also a great idea!
